Grant Promotes Growth of Knowledge-Based Economy in Arkansas
Accelerate Arkansas Seeks to Increase State Competitiveness in Global Economy
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (November 26, 2012) – The Winthrop Rockefeller Foundation (WRF) recently awarded $100,000 to Accelerate Arkansas to implement its strategic approach to building the state's knowledge-based economy.
“Accelerate Arkansas continues to serve as an important advocate for the economic growth of our state,” said Dr. Sherece Y. West-Scantlebury, president and CEO of the Winthrop Rockefeller Foundation. “To move the needle in Arkansas, we must commit to effective economic and workforce development strategies that attract high-skilled jobs to our state.”
Accelerate Arkansas will use the grant from WRF to educate stakeholders, encourage and strengthen partnerships and programs, and increase support for knowledge-based economic development strategies.
“Over the last eight years, Accelerate Arkansas has worked to create high-wage jobs and a more skilled workforce in Arkansas,” said Dr. Charisse Childers, Executive Director of Accelerate Arkansas. “WRF’s funding expands our ability to support strategies that will position the state to strengthen its competitiveness in the global economy.”
