The fourth of the Moving the Needle (MTN) strategic plan goals is to
Show that strategic support and good grantmaking practices can help select grantees achieve MTN goals within the parameters of their missions.
Strategy 1: Build grantees’ capacity to operate programs/projects effectively, which may also include core support for items such as rent, utilities, salaries, and support for technical assistance to implement MTN. MORE
Arkansas Coalition for Excellence (ACE) is the voice for the nonprofit sector in the state of Arkansas and takes seriously its role as the primary provider of quality capacity development for those organizations. ACE’s work serves to both strengthen the internal capacity of that sector and also to build public will for external support. Financing Ozarks Rural Growth and Development, Inc. (FORGE) provides an important example of how the strength of one nonprofit can affect the ability of many other important organizations. As the only micro-lender in the northwest sector of the state, FORGE’s capacity to do its work well leads to increased growth and development for a variety of small businesses and organizations in that area.
Better Community Developers, Inc. (formerly Black Community Developers, Inc.) has been working in the midtown area of Little Rock for nearly 30 years to improve the lives and life chances of residents of that community. WRF has invested in BCD’s capacity to more efficiently and effectively serve the youth of that community, and in their ability to carry out the bricks-and-mortar development that is also critical to comprehensive community change.
