Goals for Arkansas

Increase Educational Attainment

To increase high school, career education, and college graduation rates in Arkansas.

The Winthrop Rockefeller Foundation believes the strength of our state’s education system directly correlates with the opportunity to expand prosperity for all Arkansas residents. Based on what we have learned, we hold that:

  • Schools, communities, and families must collaborate effectively to ensure that students meet the critical benchmark of third-grade reading.
  • Arkansas must have a comprehensive strategic plan for K-12 and higher education
  • STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) education in Arkansas must be robust and rigorous to prepare Arkansas graduates to compete in the 21st century
  • Arkansas must develop a comprehensive career education strategy that closes the skills/jobs gap

To increase educational attainment, WRF provides funding to reduce the opportunity gap, increase parent and community engagement, decrease dropout rates and post-secondary remediation, and encourage systems-level reform that promotes equitable access to high-quality education. The Foundation partners with parents, community organizations, nonprofits, schools, institutions of higher education, and policymakers to accomplish these activities.

Application Process

We accept and review funding inquiries on an ongoing basis. We encourage prospective applicants to thoroughly review information about our strategic plan and related material on the WRF website prior to completing a Letter of Intent.
